Emmanuel holds a PhD in Economics from Queen Mary College, University of London with a doctoral scholarship from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY). He also holds an MSc in Economics from the University of Warwick and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with scholarships from IKY. He has previously taught at Queen Mary College, Cass Business School (UK), the University of Sussex (UK), Rennes Business School (France), and Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Brazil), as well as at Greek universities such as the University of Macedonia. He now teaches at Birkbeck College, University of London, and the Open University of Cyprus as Professor of Finance, as well as at the Open University of Greece. In terms of research, he has numerous scientific publications in applied macroeconomics and finance in international journals such as the Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Forecasting, European Journal of Operational Research, the European Journal of Finance, Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, and others. In 2020, he received an ESRC research grant to study the impact of Covid-19 on household debt repayments.
He has served as Secretary General for Fiscal Policy, President of the Public Debt Management Agency, and member of the Council of Economic Advisors to the Ministry of National Economy. He is currently a member of the board of directors of the Hellenic Fiscal Council.
